HAUNTERS: THE ART OF THE SCARE
ABOUT
HAUNTERS is a heart-warming and heart-stopping documentary about how family-friendly haunted houses for Halloween have spawned a growing subculture of extreme horror simulations. What kind of person dedicates their life to turning other people's nightmares into reality, and how far is too far? Explore the rise of terror as entertainment, by going behind-the-screams and into the lives of Shar Mayer, legendary scare actor, Donald Julson, a traditional boo-scare maze designer, and the infamous Russ McKamey, as he creates the most controversial full-contact haunt of all time... in his own backyard. Also featuring John Murdy (Universal Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights), Jon Braver (Delusion), Josh Randall (Blackout), Eric Lowther (Haunted Overload), Bruce Stanton (Reign of Terror), Sylvia & Jen Soska (American Mary & GSN's HELLEVATOR), Jessica Cameron (Truth or Dare) and many more talented artists.
"HAUNTERS: The Art of the Scare" was produced by The Brain Factory
HAUNTERS is a documentary about the visionaries who create some of today's most controversial interactive horror attractions and what the increasing demand for "full contact" extreme experiences tells us about society and the psychology of scaring people.
This is the first feature film to expose audiences to the sub-culture of extreme horror attractions and to uncover the reasons behind America's increasing obsession with haunted houses and the demand for truly immersive entertainment.
We filmed hundreds of hours of behind-the-scenes and personal footage of professional and home-haunters, their families, the monsters, the fans who love them, horror icons, and scientists as they conduct an experiment to discover why we love to scare and be scared.
Jon Schnitzer, Director / Producer of HAUNTERS The Movie, gained exclusive access to the most popular, theatrical and shocking haunts in America including: Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights, Knott's Scary Farm, McKamey Manor, Delusion, Blackout and more...
Jon Schnitzer is co-owner of The Brain Factory, a production company that creates immersive and interactive experiences for pop culture icons, publications and historic celebrations such as Tim Burton, Taschen Books, The Annenberg Foundation, Legacy Special Effects and more.
